Professor Tom Kurfess to Speak at the 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing Summit + Expo
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) April 24, 2014 -- The 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing Summit + Expo (#3dPAM), the first-ever 3DP/AM conference designed exclusively for business innovation strategies, announces that Tom Kurfess, HUSCO/Ramirez Distinguished Chair in Fluid Power and Motion Control and Professor George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology will speak at the Summit. The Summit will be held September 16-18th 2014, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Kurfess will present his session, Product Development and Design on Thursday September 18th. When asked what attendees could expect to learn, Kurfess responded, “We will look at how 3D printing technologies are affecting operations, productivity and creativity in manufacturing. 3D printing does offer some significant opportunities, but must be appropriately leveraged to provide the best value proposition. We will talk about some of the technology and business amplification opportunities that 3D printing provides.”
During 2012-2013 Kurfess took leave from his role as professor at Georgia Tech, to serve as the Assistant Director for Advanced Manufacturing at the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President of the United States of America. In this position, he was responsible for engaging the Federal sector and the greater scientific community to identify possible areas for policy actions related to manufacturing. Kurfess oversaw the coordination of Federal advanced manufacturing R&D, addressing issues related to technology commercialization, identifying gaps in current Federal R&D in advanced manufacturing, and developing strategies to address these gaps.
