Proficio’s Annual Survey Highlights Top Security Concerns Facing Healthcare Organizations in 2014
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- Proficio, a leading provider of next-generation managed security services, today announced the results of its annual survey highlighting the top issues of concern to IT security professionals in the healthcare industry. Respondents rated mobile security exploits, compliance requirements, medical device vulnerabilities, insider threats, and the protection of cloud-based data and applications as their top five concerns in 2014.
“As doctors and healthcare staff increasingly turn to the convenience of cloud applications and mobile devices, we are not surprised to see IT professionals concerned with the impact of these technologies on their organizations’ security in 2014,” said Brad Taylor, CEO, Proficio Inc.

Mirroring the proliferation of tablets and BYOD in healthcare organizations, there was a notable increase in concern regarding security exploits affecting mobile devices and smart phones with 65% of respondents viewing this as a big or very big concern compared to 45% in last year’s survey.
In a year that included increased focus on HIPAA and Meaningful Use, it is not surprising that concerns regarding meeting compliance requirements in 2014 increased compared with the same concern at the start of 2013 with 61% of respondents viewing this as a big or very big concern compared to 50% in last year’s survey.
Another significant trend identified in this year’s survey is that well over twice as many (33% in 2013 vs. 13% in 2012) healthcare organizations have shifted to using an outsourced MSSP to manage their security operations.
