Prominent Global Alumni Appointed to Lauder Institute Board of Governors and Lauder Advisory Council
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) November 17, 2014 -- The University of Pennsylvania’s Lauder Institute has appointed four alumni to new positions on the Board of Governors and the Lauder Advisory Council. The Lauder Institute offers a joint Masters in International Studies and a Wharton MBA, providing advanced business and cultural studies in nine languages programs that include Hindi, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German and Russian.
Anthony Davis and René Kern, former Lauder Advisory Council members, have moved to the Institute’s Board of Governors and are joined by Rosanna Ramos-Velita. Members of the Lauder Institute Board of Governors are distinguished leaders from around the world who provide strategic advice on programs and activities, assist with internships, and visit campus for lectures and discussions with students. Pavel Oliva has also been appointed to the alumni-only Lauder Advisory Council which seeks to engage alumni in the advancement of activities and programs at the Lauder Institute.
Ronald S. Lauder, who co-founded the Institute with his brother, Leonard A. Anthony Davis is currently the President of Anchorage and serves as a Portfolio Manager for substantially all of the domestic and offshore funds managed by the firm. As of June 1, 2010, Mr. Davis was named President and Member of Anchorage Capital Europe, LLP. As of this date, Mr. Davis has worked full time from London, England. Prior to co-founding Anchorage and Anchorage Capital, L.L.C. in 2003, Mr. Davis was Head of Research and Portfolio Manager for the Goldman Sachs Bank Loan business. Previously, he was Co-Head of the Goldman Sachs High Yield Distressed Bond business. In these capacities, Mr. Davis identified, evaluated and executed proprietary investments and was responsible for portfolio construction and risk management. Mr. Davis is an advocate for education and is involved with various organizations: Achievement First public charter schools, Education Reform Now political advocacy and the Lauder Institute Board of Governors. He also supports Educate Girls India and the Lightsail adaptive literacy platform. Mr. Davis’ professional education was at the Wharton School and the Lauder Institute of the University of Pennsylvania, where he received an M.B.A. and an M.A., respectively; he received his BS degree from Brigham Young University magna cum laude.
René M. Kern has worked at General Atlantic since 1996, a private investment firm established by Charles Feeney, a global entrepreneur and one of the world’s most notable philanthropists. While at GA, Rene has held a number of leadership roles in North America, Latin America and Europe. He is currently Chairman of GA's Capital Committee, leading the firm's capital partnering efforts, and serves on the firm’s Executive, Investment and Portfolio Committees. He has been a director of several publicly traded and private companies in the US, Europe and Brazil. Rene originally joined GA to head its European activities, leading several investments and building a team of senior professionals and advisors. Prior to joining GA, René spent six years with Morgan Stanley in New York and London, where he was a Vice President in the Investment Banking Division. Before that, he was a management consultant with Bain & Company in Boston. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Rene earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton School and an M.A. in International Studies from the School of Arts and Sciences. He is a fellow of the University’s Lauder Institute (German track) and serves on the Institute’s Board of Governors and is Co-Chair of its Capital Campaign. He received his B.S. degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of U.C. Berkeley's Metro New York Committee and the Board of Trustees of Greenwich Academy.
Rosanna Ramos-Velita is Chairman of the Board of Caja Rural Los Andes, a microfinance bank serving rural entrepreneurs in the Andean regions of Peru. She led a group of investors to acquire Caja Los Andes with the objective of developing a leading rural bank in Peru. Ms. Ramos-Velita has held senior positions at Citigroup, where she was CFO of Global Marketing and Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Global Consumer Group, Citigroup’s largest business worldwide. Prior to Citigroup, she started a company that focused on providing financial services to the US Hispanic community. Ms. Ramos-Velita is a Member of the Board of Grameen Foundation, where she is currently Chairman of the Latin American Council and has served as Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee. She is a Member of the Wharton Executive Board for Latin America and a Member of the Board of Enseña Perú, the Peruvian chapter of Teach for America. Ms. Ramos-Velita received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Dakota. She holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton School and an M.A. from the Lauder Institute.
Pavel Oliva is the managing partner and founder of RockHill Global, LLC, a private investment company. Prior to founding RockHill Global, LLC, Mr. Pavel was a partner and a portfolio manager at SuNOVA Capital, a leading financial services fund. While at SuNOVA Capital, he invested in diverse financial services companies globally and co-managed the SuNOVA Global Fund. His experience in financial services dates back to 1994 when he began his career as an analyst and later vice president at Thomson BankWatch (now Fitch Ratings). He was responsible for ratings and analysis of numerous banks in emerging markets.... A native of the Czech Republic, Mr. Pavel is a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Civil Society, fostering pluralistic societies in countries emerging from a history of political authoritarianism and civil strife. Mr. Pavel graduated cum laude from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and earned an M.B.A. degree from the Wharton School and his M.A. from the Lauder Institute.
