Promise Energy Helps US Veterans Go Solar at New Skid Row Housing Trust Project in Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 13, 2016 -- Located in the MacArthur Park area in Los Angeles stands a sleek new 52-unit affordable housing complex called “The Six.” Developed by Skid Row Housing Trust and designed by Brooks + Scarpa Architects, the development will provide permanent supportive housing for veterans and disabled individuals who are experiencing homelessness.
The Six received LEED Platinum Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its many sustainable features, including a 16-collector solar hot water system designed and installed by Promise Energy. The project also took advantage of a sizeable low-income rebate from the CSI Thermal Program to help reduce the cost of the system.
“The Six incorporates energy efficient measures that exceed standard practice, optimize building performance, and ensure reduced energy use during all phases of construction and occupancy. The employment of passive design strategies helps to make this building 50% more efficient than a conventionally designed structure,” said Angie Brooks, Principal Architect at Brooks + Scarpa.
“Our building uses extremely low amounts of electricity, gas, and water,” said Dana Trujillo, Chief Real Estate Officer at the Trust. “Reducing overall energy consumption lowers the development's environmental footprint and creates operational benefits by reducing the ongoing utility costs. This in turn allows the Trust to increase the amount of services we can offer to residents at the Six.”
“The solar thermal system we installed at The Six will offset over 2000 therms of natural gas annually, saving money and reducing pollution equivalent to the CO2 emissions from burning 12,000 pounds of coal a year,” said Jonas Villalba, VP of Project Development at Promise Energy.
