Proove Biosciences to Host Media Event to Address Prescription Drug Abuse Epidemic
(PRWEB) February 18, 2016 -- Proove Biosciences Inc., the commercial and research leader in personalized pain medicine, is joining forces with former Congresswoman Mary Bono to combat the prescription drug abuse epidemic. Brian Meshkin, CEO at Proove Biosciences, is one of the four distinguished guests expected to speak at the event. The press conference, which is held at the Palm Springs Convention Center on Thursday, February 18, features:
•Mary Bono, Former Congresswoman
•William Maixner, DDS, PhD, Professor at University of North Carolina
•Brian Meshkin, CEO at Proove Biosciences
•Luda Diatchenko, MD, PhD, Professor at McGill University
In 2012, physicians wrote 259 million prescriptions for opioid drugs. In 2014, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 28,647 deaths were attributed to prescription opioids and heroin—and more than 60% were due to overdoses on opioid drugs. The goal is to bring elected officials, academic luminaries, and the business community together to address a nationwide academic. “By working together, we are able to create a multi-disciplinary approach for addressing a complex, yet solvable epidemic,” said Meshkin.
With the presidential election underway, the press conference is expected to capture the attention of Presidential candidates from both political parties. “We want to bring awareness to the national stage,” continued Meshkin. “We are confident that both sides are interested in addressing an epidemic that is effecting the lives millions Americans.” The media event is expected to generate added interest in finding meaningful solutions to combat prescription drug abuse.
