ProPep Surgical® Begins Hysterectomy Study of Its ProPep Nerve Monitoring System™ with Dr. John Crane
Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 25, 2013 -- ProPep Surgical, LLC., an Austin-based medical device company, announced today it has initiated a clinical study of its ProPep Nerve Monitoring System with Dr. John Crane, director of the GYN Robotic Epicenter at Banner Health’s McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado. The purpose of the study is to explore the potential patient benefits of using the ProPep Nerve Monitoring System to perform intraoperative nerve monitoring during robotic-assisted, hysterectomy surgery.
The ProPep Nerve Monitoring System is the first, real-time nerve identification system specifically designed for use during laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery. Fast, accurate and easy to use, the System aids a surgeon in identifying the location of and monitoring the integrity of otherwise invisible nerves during laparoscopic and robotic-assisted pelvic surgery. Using this information, surgeons can potentially reduce the inadvertent nerve damage that sometimes occurs during surgery and is one of the primary causes of post-procedure side effects such as urinary and fecal incontinence.
“Identification of key, otherwise unseen nerves during radical hysterectomies is critical in maintaining anatomical and functional integrity post-surgery,” according to Dr. Crane. “I was amazed at how easy, and effective the ProPep System was to use. The whole nerve identification process only added 21 minutes to the surgery the first time I used it, and I can see how, with experience, the process will become even more efficient.”
“We are very excited to begin this study with Dr. Crane,” stated Jim Schneider, Chief Operating Officer. “He is a leader in the field of robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery and a true patient advocate. This study will be the first in a series of studies ProPep Surgical will sponsor to explore how our ProPep Nerve Monitoring System can help surgeons improve functional outcomes following robotic-assisted hysterectomy surgery and in so doing, improve patients’ post-procedure quality of life.”
