ProSales Magazine Unveils 2016 Excellence Award Winners
(PRWEB) December 05, 2016 -- Hanley Wood, the premier information, media, event, and strategic marketing services company serving the residential, commercial design, and construction industries, is pleased to announce the winners of the ProSales Excellence Awards—the most prestigious awards program in the construction supply industry. Four construction supply dealers won Grand Awards and one dealer won a Merit Award.
The ProSales Excellence Awards honor outstanding achievements in construction supply in showroom design, facility design, technology, marketing and customer service, education, advertising, and websites. The awards program celebrates business leaders whose creativity and ingenuity have not only improved and reinvigorated their own companies but have also set new benchmarks for service in the entire industry.
The 2016 Excellence Awards winners and categories are:
• Tum-A-Lum Lumber, Hood River, OR — Facility Design
• US LBM, Buffalo Grove, IL — Education Program
• Short & Paulk, Tifton, GA — Marketing
• BMC, Atlanta, GA — Technology
Receiving a Merit Award is Howe Lumber, Brookfield, MA, for Facility Design.
Dealers and distributors competed in seven categories: Best Overall Yard or Facility Design; Best Showroom Design, Best Marketing Campaign/Customer Service Program, Best Single Advertisement or Series of Advertisements; Best Use of Technology, Best Education Program, and Best Safety Program. A panel of four independent judges then decided which entries, regardless of the category, achieved excellence and which other entries were worthy of merit.
The four judges were: David Niehaus, Vice President of Sales at Niehaus Lumber, Vincennes, IN; Dwight Simmons, President of Mountain Lumber, Boone, NC; Rick Davis, President of Building Leaders, Chicago, IL; and Chris Rader, President of Rader Solutions, Lafayette, LA.
“The judges are free to pick as many or as few winners as they want in any category—what matters most is that the ideas presented represent best-of-class work,” said Craig Webb, ProSales Editor-in-Chief. “The fact that we have so many categories represented among the winners shows the range of top-drawer work being done by building materials suppliers nationwide. We’re thrilled to tell their stories.”
Tum-A-Lum’s new facility was designed with clarity in mind. Floor-to-ceiling windows help illuminate the building and expose the views of the nearby Columbia River Gorge. This design choice was a nod to retail establishments and was a move to attract more retail customers to the location with the most foot traffic. The remodel has been so successful that Tum-A-Lum is planning to incorporate elements of the design at other locations.
US LBM’s US 1 education program is based on Lean Six Sigma principles and trains businesses how to eliminate waste. With a mantra of “continuous improvement,” the focus on lean thinking helps improve processes, improve customer service, and boost employee morale. An estimated 3,000 employees have already completed the US 1 program already, and the program continues to grow and evolve, tailoring each session to suit the participants.
Short & Paulk’s marketing push towards consumers isn’t just an attempt to grow that 35% of its total revenue, it’s also a strategy that leads to more sales with builders. Consumers that know the stores come back for recommendations for contractors, who in turn buy all their materials from Short & Paulk. The company also utilizes the latest tech like geo-fencing, automated texts for its current car giveaway, and social media promotion.
BMC’s new website, BuildWithBMC.com, lists more than 40,000 products with pricing, inventory, safety features, customer service, invoicing, and delivery tracking all in one place. BMC’s plan for e-commerce has evolved since its launch of its proprietary Logistics Solutions system to track purchases and communicate with customers in 2011. The website has already resulted in new customers, and full functionality is live in 13 of BMC’s 30-plus markets, with more scheduled to come online soon.
Stories about each winning entry are featured in the just-released November/December issue of ProSales. The three Grand Award winners also will receive a $500 check to give to the charity of their choice, while the Merit Award winner receives a $150 check.
