PTSD Treatment Breakthrough; SGB Efficacy Verified Through Brain Scans
Chicago, Illinois (PRWEB) October 27, 2015 -- Six doctors presented a paper Friday at the American Society of Anesthesiologists meeting in San Diego, Calif., validating the effectiveness of Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB,) through visible evidence seen on Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans, in treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
SGB, which has been used to relieve migraines and chronic pain since the 1920s, involves a single injection into the sympathetic nerve tissue on the right side of a cervical vertebra. The use for SGB as a treatment for PTSD was pioneered by Dr. Eugene Lipov, a Chicago-based anesthesiologist (http://www.eugenelipovmd.com), who has been featured in a number of TV appearances about his findings (http://globalptsifoundation.org/videos).
Since his first publication in 2008, a number of researchers have reported positive results for SGB use as a PTSD treatment. To date, more than 2200 SGB shots have been administered at seven military hospitals with a success rate greater than 70 percent and no long-term complications. SGB is markedly more effective than the conventional, gold-standard therapies, such as psychotropic drugs, currently being used by doctors within the military and at the Veterans Administration (VA). Current approaches are effective less than 25 percent of the time, so new therapies are desperately needed.
