Public Relations Foundation of Houston Features Harris County Judge Ed Emmett at November 1st Scholarship Fundraiser Luncheon
Houston (PRWEB) October 05, 2017 -- With available funds sparse, many Houston-area college students whose uninsured family homes were flooded in Hurricane Harvey now face a challenge beyond storm recovery – choosing between their dream of a college education or forgoing their plans in support of their family’s more basic, immediate needs.
Public Relations Foundation of Houston, the charitable arm of PRSA Houston, which supports college students in and from the Houston area studying PR or a communications-related field, awarded five scholarships earlier this year, the most the Foundation has ever awarded. Now, PRFH is raising funds at its annual luncheon November 1 at the Houston Racquet Club for a special, new 2018-2019 Harvey Victors Scholarship for students affected by Hurricane Harvey. You can donate at http://www.prsahouston.org/foundation.
Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, perhaps best known for his influential leadership role and messages during major storms surrounding Harris County, will be the presenting speaker, highlighting emergency communications lessons learned in natural disaster response and recovery, collaboration, leadership, homeland security and much more at this informative and timely event.
“With so many of our friends and families facing financial burdens post-Harvey, we know that student college funds may have to be tapped as much-needed recovery funds,” said Deborah Buks, PRFH Board President and owner of Houston communications consultancy, Ward.
“As a parent and a professional who paid my own way through school with the help of scholarships, it made sense to me for PRFH to initiate relief for students, lest their dreams and aspirations be forgotten among the many priorities our community faces,” she continued. “Their future success remains our sole mission, and we want them to know people care and are working hard to raise money so they do not have to sacrifice their hopes. With the help of generous professionals in our community — who will also benefit from learning best practices for their own employers during an emergency response — these affected young people can begin to see themselves as Harvey Victors, not storm victims.”
PRSA Houston and other communications and professional associations are invited to join together for the cause to support the students. “We’d like to give a big thanks to Harris County Office of Emergency Management for their help making this event possible,” added Buks. “If they can make the students a priority so soon after the storm, certainly the rest of us should be able to find the time too.”
Donations can be made at http://www.prsahouston.org/foundation. You can register for the luncheon here. Sponsorships and tables are available.
