PublicEngines Launches Online Crime Analysis Training Series
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) January 24, 2014 -- PublicEngines, a provider of cloud-based solutions that facilitate crime analysis, supply actionable intelligence and increase community engagement for law enforcement, schools, and governments today announced the availability of a new, free Webinar training series focused on modern crime data analysis and Intelligence-Led Policing techniques starting January 2014.
The monthly Webinar series, entitled Best Practices for Better Crime Analysis is designed for crime analysts, command staff, and others to help them understand how to use the latest crime analytics techniques to create a more informed agency staff and improved decision making at all levels. Taught by Detective Daniel Seals, a renowned expert in Intelligence-Led Policing, the Webinars are designed for practical, hands-on understanding and use.
The Webinar series was created in an effort to better educate law enforcement agencies with the critical skills they need to analyze crime data. “We recently polled agencies about their biggest pain points to implementing proper crime analysis to support their efforts,” said William Kilmer, CEO of PublicEngines. “An incredible 53% of agencies said their number one barrier was lack of training on how to conduct crime analysis. We were stunned at the overall need and felt like this was an effective way to help law enforcement agencies build the rights skills for crime analysis at all levels of the organization.”
Topics for the Webinar series will include general instruction on data cleansing, creating key reports and supporting visualizations, and how to set up reports for the reporting crime data to FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting program. It will also include very impactful training such as how to target areas based on criminal activity, creating tactical action plans, and how to identify and eliminate wasteful calls for service. Each Webinar is less than an hour in length and presented on a monthly basis. To date, more than 500 agencies have signed up for the free online classes.
The first Webinar in the series will be held on January 28th 2014 and is focused on data cleansing techniques. Topics include how inaccurate data can skew crime analysis, how to detect inaccurate data -- including mis-labeled and mis-mapped crimes, and effective tools for data clean up.
