Puddle Tap Publishing's Brand-new App Helps Anxious Parents Tackle Tough Questions
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) November 13, 2014 -- What happens when you mix a group of tongue-tied dads, their squirming kids, and “the birds and the bees”? The perfect ingredients for the first truly interactive sexual health education app aimed at children ages 5 to 12.
"Clementine Wants to Know: Where Do Babies Come From?" is the latest release from Vancouver-based app publisher Puddle Tap Publishing™. Produced in collaboration with renowned sexual-health educator Meg Hickling, the app uses gentle humor and positive messaging to help families avoid the awkwardness that frequently accompanies conversations about sex.
In "Where Do Babies Come From?," the inaugural title in a new app series, Clementine learns she is about to become a big sister. She wrestles with the idea of no longer being an only child and wonders exactly where this baby is coming from. Clementine’s journey leads her through milestones in the creation of life, such as identifying love, understanding differences between the sexes, and the processes of pregnancy and birth.
Clementine’s friend, the talking camera Zoom-Zoom, guides her along the way. By using Zoom-Zoom’s features—Zoom, Speed, Flash, and Wonder Vision™—readers can experience the app's different environments and interact with various elements to learn engaging, age-appropriate, and positive information about sexual health. At the end, Clementine shows newfound confidence and responsibility as she helps take care of her newborn brother—with the reader’s help, of course.
A Necessary Parenting Tool
Parents often struggle with what, when, and how much to tell their children about sex. But as the app’s content specialist Meg Hickling notes, 'Young children are like little engineers: they want to know exactly how things work.' This app combines just the right mixture of fun storytelling and scientific facts to provide answers to common kids’ questions such as 'How did that baby get in there?' and 'How will it get out?'
Children are bombarded with messages about sex from sources including the Web, headlines, and their peers. That makes it more important than ever to prepare them with accurate knowledge about sex and sexual health issues. "Where Do Babies Come From?" provides honest, clear information while providing tools to encourage lifelong family discussion. Research shows that children who receive positive, accurate messages about sex are more confident, and more willing to talk and ask questions. They are also less likely to suffer sexual abuse and exploitation.
Rich Visuals and Gamification
"Where Do Babies Come From?" features a rich visual palette created exclusively for Puddle Tap by award-winning illustrator John Skewes, creator of the "Larry Gets Lost" series of children's books. Each scene contains a variety of activities that reinforce learning by helping readers navigate and internalize the material. Designed for a broad age range, younger children will identify with the lovable characters and narrative, while older readers will be drawn to the game play, reward badges, and information based on the latest science. Readers learn about conception by leading a group of sperm down the fallopian tube until one reaches the egg. They visit the baby inside its mother’s womb through different stages of pregnancy. Finally, when it’s time, readers help mom “push” and the midwife / doctor deliver the baby, cutting the umbilical cord themselves. Though other sex-health-education apps exist, this app's level of interactivity and immersion sets it apart as an entirely new resource in the sexual-health-education field.
