Pulmonary Hypertension Association Launches New Curriculum Series for Health Care Professionals Treating Rare, Often-Misdiagnosed Disease
Silver Spring, Md. (PRWEB) September 27, 2017 -- The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) is rolling out a new online 16-course CME curriculum series to promote quality patient care for people living with pulmonary hypertension (PH). The new series, “Pulmonary Hypertension: The Basics,” seeks to educate pulmonary hypertension (PH)-treating health care professionals – those new to the field as well as those looking to brush up on their knowledge – about the fundamentals of PH, including the diagnosis, treatment, and management of the disease.
Eight of the courses in the series have been released in advance of the live CME/CE sessions that will be offered at the 2017 PH Professional Network Symposium and PHA’s 2018 International PH Conference and Scientific Sessions. Health care professionals can earn up to 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1™ Credits through these courses through PHA Online University:

Under the leadership of Michael A. Mathier, MD, Chair of the PHA Online University National Planning Committee, this suite features engaging and varying topics presented by key opinion leaders in the field of PH. “PHA Online University is the go-to web platform for health care professionals to get relevant and reliable information about pulmonary hypertension, “he explains, “including how to screen for, diagnose, treat and manage patients with this disease – and earn complimentary CME/CEU.”

This curriculum will serve as an introduction to the live CME programs of the PHA Medical Education Fund: PHA Preceptorship Program, a day-long, intensive, highly interactive CME forum that combines didactic lectures with case-based learning; as well as complimenting the PHA Medical Education On-Demand, a flexible PH CME program with a variety of topics, formats and faculty for learners to choose from and request to meet their community’s needs.

PH is high blood pressure in the lungs. When a person has PH, the arteries in the lungs become damaged, narrow or stiff, putting pressure on the right side of the heart that can lead to heart failure and death. People with PH can experience symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness and fatigue. Patients often go years without being accurately diagnosed or are misdiagnosed with less threatening illnesses such as asthma or COPD.
