Putting Power Back Into Presentations with New Voice and Gesture Technology

With an estimated 1.25 MILLION presentations given around the world every hour, it’s safe to say that everyone has experienced the fear and pressure of having to give an impactful presentation. In April 2013, a group of coworkers at an innovative technology center in the almost unheard of country of Armenia, quit their jobs, migrated, and came together to create their own startup, Lionsharp. They began their journey on a mission to change the way the world does presentations.
They created Voiceboard, a new technology software that allows the presenter to use the most natural tools for communication (their voice and hands) to completely control technology, making their presentations more memorable and engaging. Voiceboard also has the added advantage of new interactive media, helping presenters to break away from the linear presentation model. “The magic in the final product lies beyond voice and gesture control. It includes tools like live webpage navigation, controllable 3D models and maps right inside the slides, completely changing what it means to give a presentation,” said Sharp.
Lionsharp’s engineering-heavy team set out on a path to become experts in everything voice and gesture controlled. They met up with the CEO at Nod labs, who have created a wearable device packed with sensors that can detect an individuals hand gestures. It is worn as one would wear a ring, making it perfect for recognizing natural hand gestures. As a result, with Voiceboard the user can swipe through slides with a wave of their hand while using a high-quality Bluetooth mic to control features with voice commands.
After 18 months of grueling work, Voiceboard is here and ready to ship. Huge backing has already been gathered on the Kickstarter campaign where Voiceboard gained 45% of its funding goal within 20 minutes of launching at the Financial Times Innovate 2014 event.
The Kickstarter campaign is a giant step to get Voiceboard out of Armenia and into the global marketplace. Kickstarter has an “all-or-nothing” approach, this is a first for Armenia and hopefully the excitement will extend far beyond the 6 million Armenian Diaspora.
