Qosmos Successfully Completes Proof of Concept (PoC) of Service Function Chaining for Fixed Broadband
Paris, France (PRWEB) December 03, 2015 -- Qosmos®, the market leader in Internet Protocol (IP) traffic classification and network intelligence technology used in physical, Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) architectures, today announced a successful joint Proof of Concept (PoC) for service function chaining in fixed broadband networks. The project was completed in collaboration with Telekom Research & Development (TM R&D), a subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and the work was conducted in TM’s R&D facility in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
The objective of the project was to validate the target design of a virtualized access network combined with dynamic service chaining of value-added services.
Technically, traffic from an access network based on OpenStack and virtual routers is submitted to a service chaining infrastructure which steers traffic to various service functions (virtual router, firewall, WAN accelerator, etc.) based on layer 2-7 classification from the Qosmos Classifier® (e.g. SSL, RTP, SSH, FTP, Facebook, P2P, Gmail, YouTube, Web browsing, etc.)
Key elements of the PoC:
- OpenStack
- Virtual routers
- Qosmos Classifier
- SDN controller based on OpenDaylight
- Graphical User Interface (GUI) for performance management
The Qosmos Classifier is the world’s first Layer 7 Service Classifier, driven by OpenDaylight SFC API. This product is essential for dynamic, application-aware service chaining in mobile or fixed broadband networks. The classification is based on Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), content recognition, and session behavior.
Thibaut Bechetoille, CEO at Qosmos: “I am pleased to partner with TM R&D to implement new ways to build, deploy and manage networking services dynamically and cost-effectively. Our PoC demonstrates the key role of Layer 7 traffic classification to programmatically create any type of service combination quickly and easily in an open virtualized environment.”
