In the last year of his undergraduate program at UF, QQ Solutions’ founder and CEO, Mark Malis, recalls being assigned a project to write software for any business of his choosing. He approached his father, Gerry Malis, to ask if he could write a program to help his auto insurance agency speed up everyday tasks that bogged down his agents.
Mark developed his first agency management system, AutoFile, in 1983. At the time, the program was written on a “laptop” computer – weighing more than twenty pounds. The source code was stored on 5.25-inch floppy disks. When the product was first deployed by his dad’s agency, Mark said the feedback was so positive that he and his dad decided to sell it to other agencies. “In the beginning, it never occurred to me that I could own my own business,” Mark said. “When I graduated, I just thought I’d work at IBM.”
Today, Mark has a very clear vision for his company’s future. Just as twenty-pound computers are a thing of the past, so are agencies that run on paper trails and filing cabinets. As a result, QQ Solutions latest product, QQ Catalyst, really brings agents into the future by utilizing superior technology.
