Quixotic Systems Completes Solar PV System for Notre Dame Academy in Staten Island, NY
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 29, 2014 -- Quixotic Systems Inc. has recently completed a solar PV system at the Staten Island campus of Notre Dame Academy. The project, believed to be the first of its kind for a Staten Island school, involves 165 solar panels installed on a two-level flat rooftop over the elementary school building, according to Sister Patricia Corley, president of the all-girls school.
"This project is a giant step forward, not just for Notre Dame, but for all of Staten Island," Sr. Patricia said.
Quixotic Systems provided the engineering, procurement and construction services for the project, which extended Quixotic’s extensive reach in Staten Island. Notre Dame Academy is the most recent project for Quixotic on Staten Island whose major projects include Staten Island Mental Health Hospital, the Staten Island Jewish Community Center, and Mt. Richmond Cemetery.
Reducing the school's greenhouse gas emission and carbon footprint in the community is one of Notre Dame's priorities outlined in the school's Strategic Plan, Sr. Patricia said. The solar project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emission in the community by as much as 36 tons a year while saving the school approximately $15k in electricity charges annually, she said. Funding for the project came from NYSERDA, Richmond County Savings Foundation, the Congregation of Notre Dame, with the remaining funds coming directly from Notre Dame Academy.
Notre Dame Academy tapped NY-based Quixotic Systems to install the state-of-the art Photovoltaic (PV) system. “We are thrilled to be working on this project that is sure to set the standard for sustainability in Staten Island,” said Gerry Heimbuch, VP Development at Quixotic. “This is one of the biggest green initiatives in Richmond County and we are proud that Quixotic was selected.”
