Racy Urban Novel Highlights the Importance of Decision-Making
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (PRWEB) July 02, 2013 -- The plights of inner-city youth often go undocumented. In his new book, "Tell No Secrets, Speak No Lies" (published by AuthorHouse), Derrick Thomas shares three intense, heartbreaking tales that serve as a warning to urban youth everywhere.
"Tell No Secrets, Speak No Lies," a fictional narrative, tells of the everyday hardships in an urban community. Addressing issues that often go ignored, the book sheds light on a part of society that is too frequently forgotten.
Weaving spiritual lessons throughout the narrative, the book provides a poignant social commentary about the ramifications of decisions, different roles in society and responsibilities people feel toward one another. Thomas believes that choices help define character and dictate one’s place in society. He explains that God has a plan for everyone and shows how negative decisions deviate from that plan.
"It’s our responsibility to live a life of kindness and compassion," says Thomas. "No one can make all of the right choices, but we have a responsibility to society and to God to attempt to do so."
Thomas tackles mature issues such as gun violence, drug use and infidelity in the hopes that he will be able to reach readers who have encountered such hardships. He seeks to be an inspirational voice for the young urban male.
"The book is based loosely on people that I have encountered while growing up in Birmingham, Ala.," Thomas writes. "I’m sharing these stories in hopes that my readers will avoid the downfalls of the characters in the novel."
