Rainbow Station Makes Calculated Investment in Global Growth: Announces New CEO
GLEN ALLEN, Va. With the strongest foundation in the early education franchise space, the time has come to push down the pedal and eye aggressive expansion. To amplify that strategy, founder Gail Johnson has moved to a board seat, recruiting Vance Spilman to spark the growth.

Spilman is no stranger to growth, having been both franchisor and franchisee with previous brands, including CFO of Monument Restaurants, the largest franchisee of Five Guys, and President of sweetFrog Enterprises, the fastest growing self-serve frozen yogurt brand over the last 24 months.
“With Five Guys, we saw the potential of the brand to become a household name. I have the same feeling about Rainbow Station. It is an amazing brand with untapped potential that has history, a foundation, and financially sound unit level economics,” Spilman said.
For new franchisees, Spilman said the company will focus on identifying the most accommodative submarkets and facilitating site selection, construction and opening. For existing owners, Rainbow Station will concentrate on boosting enrollment numbers through increased marketing efforts. In addition to spreading the brand domestically, Spilman also said he will work with the company to open up new franchise locations abroad.
“We now have three locations in China, and are currently working to open franchises in Indonesia and India,” he said. “We believe there’s a huge opportunity outside the continental U.S., and international development is something we’ll continue to focus on.”
Rainbow Station preschools continue to differentiate themselves on a number of levels. The Get Well Place, continually staffed by a pediatric nurse, accepts mildly ill children and supports the healthcare needs of the school.
