Washington, DC (PRWEB) June 03, 2018 -- CoachDiversity Institute works with forward-thinking corporations, foundations, nonprofit organizations, and government entities that are ready to challenge how diversity training has been implemented in the past. CEO and Founder, Dr. Towanna Burrous, newest recipient of the 2018 #WEXDC award talks about the prevalent almost mandatory necessity of diversity and inclusion amid a recent racist flame-throw from Roseanne Barr towards Valerie Jarrett over social media.
“First, congratulations to ABC for reacting so quickly, cancelling the show within the same day. I can’t recall at any time in history where a network or an organization took such a quick stance or position. It usually takes several days or someone first getting suspended then maybe getting their job back. This is the first time we’ve seen something like this happening. I’m kind of in shock.”
Earlier this year Starbucks took a strong position against racial profiling among their company culture. Corporate made the decision to close stores so that all employees could go through appropriate training. “We knew that if we called them out on it, they would listen for a little while. However, they surprised us when they decided to take (bold) action and go through implicit bias training with their employees. That was super important.”
Dr. Burrous believes that these super brands and companies are really starting to look at the long-term effects and ramifications of not being supportive in the community and not understanding how diversity and inclusion interplay with their brand promise which can leave massive holes in their pockets and bottom-line profits. After the success of the Black Panther movie, there has been increased awareness and understanding of the intrinsic, “dollar” power of a culture and how that culture can shift the economy. “If we didn’t believe or pay attention to the statistics before, now we understand the power of the Black dollar.” Now that African Americans have become more aware of our buying power, political power and who we are as a strong, unified community, we equally are going to start to see and demand more change, and less tolerance from big brands and cultural icons who refuse to swiftly or better yet, proactively deal with real and relevant issues around diversity and inclusion.
And the good news is that ALL communities of color will benefit, “not just the Black community, but the Latino and Asian communities alike.”
It’s a new day. Times up. The bar has been raised.
