This functionality is scheduled to be released in December 2017, well in advance of the CMS requirement mandate. With this enhancement HEALTHsuite will allow health plans to utilize both the SSN-based HICN and the new MBI to locate a member during the transition period.
Medicare is replacing the current SSN-based HICN with a new Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) starting in 2018. By April 1, 2018 health plans will need to use the MBI in all cases where they currently use the HICN. The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), requires all healthcare payers to remove SSNs from Medicare cards to address the risk of beneficiary medical identity theft. Per the legislative requirement, CMS will be mailing out all Medicare cards with the new identifier by April 2019.
