Raphael Barristers Offers Legal Help for Bicycle Injury to Meet Growing Ontario Demand
Toronto, ON (PRWEB) July 25, 2014 -- This announcement comes as a response to the growing demand in Ontario for increased legal representation in cases in which the cyclist was not at fault. Cycling has increased in popularity in the province, which in turn has resulted in more accidents involving at least one bicycle.
The increase in legal need correlates with a study done by Ontario’s chief coroner. This report states that all 129 deaths of cyclists that occurred between 2006 and 2010 could have been prevented had one or all of the parties involved been paying attention to posted traffic signs or had obeyed all traffic laws. While some expected the reviewed accidents to have taken place during times of poor visibility, bad weather, or other abnormal conditions, the opposite was true: more than 80% of all bicycle-related accidents occurred during times of good visibility and clear weather. A little over half occurred during daylight.
While the report does say that some accidents resulted from the actions of the cyclist, a number of them were caused by drivers of motor vehicles who were speeding or not paying attention. They failed to take action that could have prevented the accident. The families of these cyclists often seek justice. Because the number of bikers has increased, the number of accidents has increased, which, as one would expect, means the number of families needing legal representation has also increased. “Raphael Barristers is aware of injury trends and will continue to meet the needs of the public as they change,” said Jeff Raphael, partner in the firm. The firm also provides representation for those cyclists who are injured and seek payment for medical bills.
In addition to the report, the Ontario coroner’s office released a list of suggestions that could be used to help reduce the number of accidents. They include things such as enhancing the safety of all road users by adding separate bike lanes and areas of reduced speed. They also recommended formulating a cycling plan that will help streamline how the city approaching its biking population by creating one plan for construction, legislation, and funding. Promoting helmet use, making sure all bikers are aware of laws for riding on city streets, and creating a safety information seminar for public schools were also on the list of suggestions.
