RawVoice / Blubrry Initiates New Filters to Combat Podcast Statistics Fraud
Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) March 31, 2015 -- Podcasting giant RawVoice, parent company of Blubrry, has enhanced existing filters by adding new filters to its Podcast Statistics services to prevent recent black-hat techniques that attempt to inflate podcast download numbers.
“We noticed in recent months that a small number of content creators were inflating their numbers using unethical techniques,” said Todd Cochrane, RawVoice CEO. “Most likely, this was an effort to bolster the appeal of their shows to advertisers and/or prospective clients.”
The new Twitter-bombing filters add to the company’s growing suite of filters to prevent inflated statistics, including those from excessive downloads from one source, invalid applications and Web-bots.
“We noticed immediately what was happening and we quickly developed a solution. We take this unethical activity very seriously,” Cochrane said. “We already had filters in place that have proved to be highly successful in preventing fraud; this is an important addition.”
Blubrry filter techniques report totals that are free of accidental and intentional static. As recently as 2012, Blubrry’s filters successfully prevented an excessive-download bug that was present in iOS 6 from impacting client numbers, said RawVoice CIO Angelo Mandato.
“Our system didn't count the excessive downloads,” Mandato said. “It was the months following when we learned that competitors over-reported because of the bug. That was a proud moment; it confirmed we had the right algorithms in place.”
RawVoice/ Blubrry Podcast Stats Certification Service remains the gold standard for podcasters wanting to have their media statistics validated for advertisers or business objectives. RawVoice/Blubrry measures hundreds of millions of podcast deliveries each month, filtering out traffic that could inflate a podcasts reporting data.
“We encourage media buyers to ask their podcast advertising clients how their media campaigns are being measured,” Cochrane said.
RawVoice has been providing statistic services to podcasters and major media clients for close to a decade. Its measurement service is available to media buyers to audit podcast advertising campaigns and to all podcasters and networks.
