Readiness Resource Group Launches Active Shooter Response Training Website: Options for Safety and Survival
Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) December 05, 2015 -- Readiness Resource Group Incorporated (RRG), a veteran-owned small business has developed a one of a kind on-line training program, http://www.activeshootertest.com, to assist companies, organizations and individuals in planning for, responding to, identifying options for personnel safety and survival, and to define actions that will assist law enforcement in an active shooting or workplace violence emergency response.
Responsible business owners and operators must have awareness and an action plan for an active shooter or workplace violence emergency at their facilities. Effective plans include components on communication with employees, visitors or guests; employee accountability; employee actions and roles; coordination and communication with emergency responders; and a well-planned and widely understood response. This on-line certificate based training program fosters coordination between facilities owners and operators and local emergency response teams presenting individuals with options for their safety and survival, as well as considering those individuals around them.
RRG’s new web-based training consists of 25 distinct lines of business, such as hotels and resorts, restaurants, casinos, retail shops, supermarkets, theaters, schools and universities, manufacturing facilities and hospitals, to name only a few. The website also provides specialized training modules for those in leadership roles, addressing fire prevention and response, private security, workplace violence, insider threat and executive training. Each module focuses upon the uniqueness and challenges of the business and identifies 20 different actions an individual or employee can take to protect themselves, co-workers and customers. The training also identifies nearly 40 different actions the business can take to support the law enforcement and first responders in their efforts to neutralize the threat.
Based on years of service to public safety agencies and commercial clients, RRG provides the new and comprehensive web-based training curriculum for government and commercial clients nationwide. Training focuses on what individual employees can do and what senior management must do to protect life safety and corporate assets. A Basic Training course is recommended for all personnel. More detailed executive management courses address crisis management, workplace violence, insider threat and fire safety. The cost of the training is $12 for a basic course and $24 for an executive course (which consists of two training modules). Do not be misled by the cost. This is not a watered down version, but consists of actionable response procedures. Every employee should be trained on active shooting and workplace violence there is simply no reason to charge more or complicate operations with difficult to schedule, disruptive and costly classroom instruction.
A business, healthcare facility, or a school is responsible for the safety and security of all individuals and students on their property. Thus, a business owner cannot callously ignore those guests who are standing right in front of them, a teacher cannot leave their students, nor can a healthcare provider abandon their patients. RRG’s CEO, Dave Shepherd said “Responsible business owners and operators must have awareness and an action plan for an active shooter or workplace violence emergency at their facilities. Effective plans include components on communication with employees, visitors or guests; employee accountability; employee actions and roles; coordination and communication with emergency responders; and a well-planned and exercised structured business response protocol. Training should foster coordination between facilities owners and operators and local emergency response teams while presenting individuals with options for their safety and survival, including consideration of those around them who may be disabled or have special needs.”
“The time is here to think carefully about the frontline workforce in America and our individual responsibilities, our duty of care” said Robert J. Coullahan, RRG’s President. “What few people know is that under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) General Duty Clause, employers are required to provide a safe workplace free from recognized hazards that can cause death or serious injury to employees. This does not mean only hazardous materials and conditions which require hazard identification, mitigation, and response”, Coullahan added. “Employers must now address the ‘hazard’ of an aggressive intruder or active shooter who means to do harm to people in work settings.”
This new certification-based training provides a record of the good faith effort to prepare “all employees” for their safety and security, and will serve to blunt the legal challenges that have increasingly been made to companies that failed to plan, failed to train, and failed to show a reasonable duty of care to protect their workforce.
