Real Estate Broker Brian Haggerty Discusses Upward Employment Trend
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) February 09, 2015 -- The Florida housing market is booming, with rising prices, frequent sales, and an increase in licensed real estate agents. According to the Tampa Bay Times on Jan. 16, 2015, in 2014, there was a 36% increase from 2013 in people getting their real estate licenses.
To become a real estate agent in Florida, one must take a 63-hour pre-licensing course. The course may be taken in person in a classroom or online. Following the 63-hour course, applicants must pass a test of 100 multiple choice questions by correctly answering at least 75. The questions often involve math, and in 2014, 50% of first-time test takers failed. Among repeat test-takers, the failure rate was higher, at 66%. Between November 2013 and April 2014, only 37.2% of applicants who took the course in a traditional classroom passed, while online students had a 54.1% pass rate.
Brian Haggerty, a Broker for Haggerty Real Estate Services, offers advice for aspiring real estate agents when facing the test.
"Take the cram course offered by the Real Estate Schools and study!" says Haggerty. Applicants who fail the test may re-take it as many times as they wish within a two-year period.
Of course, becoming a real estate agent can be quite expensive. In addition to the 63-hour class and fees to take the licensing exam, potential real estate agents can have enormous out-of-pocket costs to get started. In addition to state license application fees, fingerprinting, and dues to join Realtor organizations at the local, state, and national levels, a new real estate agent must also pay for access to lock boxes and the Multiple Listing Service. On top of that, there are marketing costs such as business cards, signs, and professional headshots, as well as desk rental in an established real estate office.
With so many initial costs, one might wonder why anyone would want to become a real estate agent.
"Its a business for people who may not have a college degree. It pays well and affords a lot of flexibility," Haggerty explains.
