Reality Changers Hosts "Race to College" 5K Run/Walk
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 05, 2015 -- Reality Changers will partner with Road Runner Sports to host the 2nd Annual “Race to College” 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 7th. All proceeds from this event will benefit Reality Changers, an organization that helps build first generation college students in San Diego. Over 250 members from the community will join Reality Changers students and their families to celebrate the college-going culture.
“This event has become a part of our organization’s tradition to involve our supporters alongside our students and their families as they embark on the race to college,” explained Reality Changers’ Founder & President Christopher Yanov.
Throughout the 3.1 mile course, photos will depict the experience of a Reality Changers student - from the first step of joining the program as an 8th grader to crossing the finish line and graduating with a bachelor’s degree. At Reality Changers, 97% of students are admitted to a four-year college or university and 89% are persisting and expected to graduate. This surpasses the national average of 11% of first generation college students who historically graduate in six years or less.
“This race aligns with our mission to not only build more first generation college students but to transform City Heights - a community where only 3% of adults hold college degrees - into a college town,” Yanov continued. Having served over 1,000 youth in the San Diego, Reality Changers is involving the entire community in a fun and healthy way to inspire inner-city youth to attain higher education.
