Realtor Janie VanLeeuwen Touts the Merits of Selling in Winter
Greenville, SC (PRWEB) January 17, 2017 -- Spring and summer are widely believed to be the best seasons for selling a house, but winter is fast becoming the best season to sell. “There are some very distinct advantages to selling a home in winter,” said Realtor Janie VanLeeuwen, owner of Welcome Home Realty. “My favorite time to launch a new listing is in late December or early January. There are always home shoppers looking and you have the jump on the competing homes when you get on the market first.”
For those contemplating when to sell their home, VanLeeuwen lists the following three tips on why winter is a prime selling season:
No. 1: Motivated buyers. “Buyers are definitely in the market in the winter months, and during this time of year know exactly what they’re looking for and are ready to make offers,” noted VanLeeuwen. “Keep in mind, however, to never take listing photographs with snow on the ground or a Christmas tree in the picture. That automatically date-stamps your home’s listing.”
No. 2: Control over the showing schedule. Selling in the winter means the seller has more control of the house-showing schedule, and can be comfortable knowing that showings don’t need to interfere with their day-to-day life. “Additionally, it’s imperative to hire a Realtor who provides professional staging,” stressed VanLeeuwen. “If you do it yourself, take down all personal items. Less is more. Clean off all surfaces, de-clutter, etc.”
No. 3: Less competition. “There is less competition for homes in winter because many sellers take their homes off the market or delay listing their homes,” concluded VanLeeuwen. “This means you don’t have to discount your home during winter because you are not competing with as much inventory, which means more money for you.”
