Recycled PET tiles are launched for environment friendly constructions
Sao Paulo, Brazil (PRWEB) September 17, 2014 -- In 2010, Brazil-based Plaslatina established its goal to produce a completely sustainable, green product made entirely from recycled material and after years of research and development - along with a $2.5 million cash injection - Rivesti was born and is pleased to introduce its first environmentally friendly mosaic tiles to the marketplace.
Rivesti tiles are 100 per cent recycled and, just as importantly, recyclable. They are made from a mixture of recycled PET (85 per cent) and recycled mineral additives (15 per cent). The process of making the tiles is also environmentally-conscious, as it generates less energy and emissions, while also producing zero waste. Each square metre of Rivesti tiles prevents the release of 3kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and removes 66 PET bottles from the fate of being wasted as landfill.
They come in 33 colours and together with their ease of use, Plaslatina partner Miriam Braga - who founded the company with Rafael Sorano - believes they will encourage creativity in sustainable construction.
“We are very excited about the creative freedom that our product can encourage. Everyone, including architects, can be inspired to imagine new possibilities of how and where to use the tiles and be more daring with their choice of colours," she said.
The tiles are also up to two-thirds lighter than conventional times and therefore impact positively on the emissions released in transporting them. Sorano, who created the tiles, said "sustainability is the mission of our company" and this mantra appears to be embodied in every aspect of producing and utilising these tiles, which are also zero per cent water absorbent and are made using additives that combat the effects of UV light and chemical agents. Moreover, the tiles are made to be easy to fit together, reducing labour time and cost.
Plaslatina's spin-out's business plan projection for the coming five years sets out its target to recycle 6.6 million post-consumer PET bottles per month, which would reduce 300 tonnes of PET from the environment every month. These figures could make Rivesti an attractive, strategic option for packing companies looking to partner with green businesses to help them meet their corporate responsibility goals.
Moreover, once a construction project is completed, clients can return their unused tiles and tile fragments to the factory, which will then recycle them into fresh tiles.
The technology used to produce these recycled PET construction materials is 100 per cent Brazilian, with international backing helping to bring the tile production system to life thanks to the support of Merck in Germany and Momentive in the US.
Rivesti's tile production technology has been patented in 150 countries and were officially launched in April 2013 and are now sold in over 80 stores across Brazil and are beginning to be introduced to international markets.
