Recycling Perks: All for the Dross
Chesapeake, VA (PRWEB) June 05, 2014 -- I know what you’re thinking. What’s dross? Dross is British nomenclature for waste or trash. What we care about is the recycling part of waste and how to commandeer more recyclables from the residents we serve.
We’re Recycling Perks, a rewards program incentivizing saving the world, but we’re also disguised as a material recovery program scouring neighborhoods for opportunistic pockets where non-recyclers can be whisked over to the recycling side.
Recently, we turned three and we wanted to take a look back on our youthful launch to see how we’ve impacted the cities who welcomed us as a valued member of their recycling team, specifically looking at the cities near our home base in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Chesapeake was our number one, our first foray into recycling rewards. Our Chesapeakeians are avid Perksters. They’ve claimed $260,000 in recycling rewards and they’ve increased recycling by 3,708,667 pounds. Just imagine a room filled with 1,854 elephants – that’s how much MORE they’ve recycled since the City added Recycling Perks. We’re going to need a bigger room for all those elephants.
Due west, down US 460 is the largest geographic city in the state of Virginia – Suffolk. Until Perks arrived, a mere 10% of the City’s residents were recycling through a subscription service. Recycling Perks and the new curbside recycling program rolled into town (literally, because the carts have wheels) and Suffolk, Virginia saw participation in recycling skyrocket with a 550% increase.
Rounding out our local area is Norfolk, Virginia; home to the largest Naval base in the country and the metropolis of Coastal Virginia. Norfolk’s recycling was mature when Perks made its way to town. They had curbside recycling for over 10 years and plateaued like the Island in the Sky (look it up – it’s in Utah). Post-Perks, participation increased 30%, pounds recycled increased by 200,000 pounds per month - or 100 elephants, and local folk are saving $25 a month by using the rewards program.
Recycling Perks is on the move, hopefully heading to a city near you.
Launched in Spring 2011, Recycling Perks is an incentive program that promotes participation in curbside recycling and is available to approximately 400,000 households. Recycling Perks strives to improve household recycling efforts, reduce waste, and promote local businesses by offering great savings and exclusive deals that reward recyclers. Hampton Roads residents will save $13.5 million this year and recycle more than 67 million pounds (or 33,500 elephants). Simply put – you recycle, we reward.
Disclaimer: No elephants were harmed in the production of this press release nor does Recycling Perks or any residents in the Cities it serves actually recycle elephants.
