Prosser, WA (PRWEB) July 22, 2013 -- Red Comet’s new high school online elective course "Gothic Literature: Monster Stories" is an exciting addition to the curriculum. Gothic fiction is also sometimes referred to as Gothic Horror because authors combine romance with horror to create a deeply engaging storyline. From vampires to ghosts, these frightening stories have influenced fiction writers since the 18th century. Modern day writers have written several bestsellers that have capitalized on this theme of weaving terror into romantic fiction. And many bestsellers have debuted on the silver screen much to the delight of the fans.
This course focuses on the major themes found in Gothic literature and demonstrates how the core writing drivers produce, for the reader, a thrilling psychological environment. Terror versus romance, the influence of the supernatural, and the blurring of good and evil are just a few of the themes presented. When students complete this course, they would have gained an understanding of and an appreciation for the complex nature of dark fiction.
