Reduce, reuse, recycle: Amidst renovations, Edgewood helps families and environment with donation
North Andover, MA (PRWEB) December 04, 2015 -- Truckloads of like-new and gently used appliances, furnishings and fixtures that might otherwise end up in a landfill are living out their useful lives in area Habitat for Humanity homes, thanks to a partnership between Edgewood LifeCare Community and the Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity.
Each year, as new members move in, Edgewood renovates several of its apartment homes. Sometimes the community is replacing older design appliances with versions that are safer or easier for their senior residents to operate. Periodically, Edgewood does complete renovations of kitchens and bathrooms for new residents moving into the community. Whatever the reason, Edgewood does everything it can to find homes for usable items. That’s where Habitat for Humanity comes in.
Edgewood donates everything from glass cooktops, refrigerators, and stackable washer/dryer units, to entire sets of kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and sinks, and, occasionally, office furniture. The Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity then sells these items to the public in its ReStore in Lawrence, MA.
According to Bob Coppola, Facilities Director at Edgewood, “This year we donated almost 12 truckloads of items. Everything we donate is working and in good condition; the appliances are all ENERGY STAR rated. As a community that is committed to preserving the natural environment, we are thrilled to be able to partner with Habitat for Humanity to make these items available to families who can use them.”
