Refashioning Korean Culture: South Korean President Park Geun-hye to announce new global cultural enrichment initiative in New York
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 24, 2015 -- President Park Geun-hye of the Republic of Korea will be attending Refashioning Korean Culture on Monday, September 28th, to make an announcement marking the official launch of the Korean government's plans for cultural expansion and growth throughout the world. The ceremony is set to take place at the Korean Cultural Service New York (KCSNY) at the Consulate General in New York City.
The President will be defining the framework for the development of global culture networking with a model exhibition, unveil a new "Korean Seal of Excellence" to mark the authenticity of cultural assets, and hold a recognition ceremony for a group of valuable individuals of the United States who have been selected for their influential support of Korean culture.
President Park's visit to the KCSNY will solidify her stance on the two main pillars of her agenda—cultural enrichment and creative economy—and affirms her global policy goals of expanding Korea's cultural enterprise. This will be the first time that a Korean president visits one of the 28 total Korean cultural centers based in major cities around the world including Paris, London, Tokyo, Sydney, and Beijing.
Leading up to this event, the President has continued to express her resolve for culture to become Korea's primary diplomatic and economic platform, and since 2013 has established the Presidential Committee on Cultural Enrichment.
The decision to make the announcement in New York highlights Korea's recognition of New York City as the culture capital of the world. Kim Jongdeok, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, announced in August that New York and Paris will be the primary "cultural hubs" from which all overseas Korean cultural centers and affiliated organizations—such as the Korea Tourism Organization, Korea Creative Content Agency, and the Korean Film Council—are to take direction, as the Korean government aims to base its efforts for expansion in the most culturally diverse and competitive locations in the world.
President Park's statement during Refashioning Korean Culture in New York will include a detailed blueprint for Korea's cultural growth on an international scale, and will be followed by an inauguration ceremony for a Korean culture experience hall, which will serve as a prototype for future displays at other Korean cultural centers. The exhibition will showcase traditional elements of Korean culture—including food, fashion, and design—through Korea's advanced technology, and incorporate digital components for an interactive experience.
Furthermore, President Park will be assigning the newly minted "Korean Seal of Excellence" to key contents in the exhibition including the Korean traditional dress hanbok, fermented foods, and traditional craftwork, designating their value and authenticity as the most significant among Korean culture.
President Park will also formally show recognition and appreciation for a select group of influential figures in the United States who continue to support Korean culture. This will be a step toward developing alliances in the arts and humanities sectors through the support of cultural leaders across a wide range of creative fields. Echoing her "Life with Culture" policies in 2013 that set independence, co-existence, and fusion as the "new framework for cultural policy in the era of cultural enrichment," it signifies Korea's aim to work in close partnership and support with key cultural assets across the world, building and joining a global culture network.

President Park's visit to the KCSNY is her final scheduled agenda during her visit to New York from September 25th to September 28th to attend the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit 2015 and the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) to assert Korea's position on numerous global issues concerning peace, security, development and climate change.
