Removable Pool Fence Company, LOOP-LOC, Discusses How to Prepare Your Pool for a Hurricane
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., June 8, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- LOOP-LOC, removable pool fence company that services New Jersey, discusses how to prepare a pool for a hurricane.
During hurricane season, it is vital to properly prepare the pool and surrounding backyard area when a hurricane is forecasted to hit. Here are some suggestions for preparing the pool for an impending storm.
First, while it may be tempting to do so, do not empty the pool. The weight of the water should keep the pool in the ground where it belongs. If the pool is empty, pressure from excessive ground water caused by heavy rains could cause it to pop out of the ground. Add extra chlorine at this time—preferably shock—to prevent contamination from both debris and excessive storm water. Do not cover the pool. Falling branches and debris have the potential to damage a pool cover. Instead, remove any debris from the pool after the storm.
Make sure the power to the pool is turned off at the circuit breaker. This includes chlorinators, pump motors, heating, automatic timer, and all lighting. The, wrap the pump motor, heater, and lights with waterproof plastic—tying securely with duct tape or rope to prevent sand and water from getting in. If flooding is in the forecast, disconnect all pool equipment and store it in a dry place.
It can also be helpful to do some preemptive landscaping. Look around the backyard for loose branches, shrubs, and leaves. Trim any weak or long branches before the hurricane makes landfall, so they don't end up in the pool.
Finally, remove loose items from the pool and surrounding area. Pool toys, patio chairs, tables, umbrellas, and floats can become harmful projectiles if the winds get too high. Store them inside a secure shelter.
