Renewable Choice Energy to Provide Green Power for John Hancock Boston Buildings
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) October 21, 2013 -- Renewable Choice Energy (http://www.renewablechoice.com) today announced that financial services leader John Hancock has purchased green power from the Boulder-based firm to offset 100% of the company’s electricity use in four of its Boston buildings over a two year period, a total of more than 58 million kilowatt hours (kWh).
The purchase will offset the electricity consumption in John Hancock’s LEED® certified Boston facilities, including the company’s 601 Congress Street office, which additionally features a green roof designed with native plants and grasses that improve thermal insulation. The building is also enhanced with a double-skin exterior window system that helps reduce annual energy consumption as a result of heating and cooling. The property has been recognized with numerous awards including the AIA Excellence and Sustainable Design Award, BOMA Boston Office Building of the Year, and BOMA Boston Eco Challenge Award Office Building.
The company’s most recent green power purchase adds to its already considerable portfolio of environmentally responsible business practices, including leadership in natural resource conservation, energy efficiency, renewable energy investment, and timberland management. The company is also committed to social responsibility practices, particularly those serving Boston and its surrounding communities.
“John Hancock is an established leader in financial services, and have proven themselves to be committed environmental stewards with their sustainability practices and green power purchase,” said John Powers, VP of Business Development for Renewable Choice. “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to do business with John Hancock and to contribute to their responsibility efforts.”
