Renowned Nurse Scientist to Join Faculty of Goldfarb School of Nursing in 2014
St. Louis (PRWEB) December 16, 2013 -- Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College has announced the appointment of Jean Davis, PhD, RN, a senior-level researcher in the field of non-invasive sleep interventions, as the Paul J. McKee Jr. senior associate dean for research. She will begin at Goldfarb in February 2014 after completing work in her current role at Wayne State University as associate dean for academic and clinical affairs.
“Dr. Davis will be a great fit to our school with her strong knowledge of nursing science and experience mentoring faculty and students,” says Michael Bleich, PhD, RN, FAAN, Maxine Clark and Bob Fox dean and professor of Goldfarb School of Nursing. “As the college increases our research initiatives, in partnership with the scientific powerhouse Washington University, we are confident that Dr. Davis can lead the college to exponential growth in that respect.”
Throughout her expansive career, Dr. Davis has served many academic appointments at Wayne State University, University of Florida College of Nursing in Gainesville, Fla., University of Arizona, University of California-Los Angeles, University of California-Davis and University of California-San Diego. She is a Robert Wood Johnson Faculty Scholars mentor, has served on National Institute of Health Scientific Review panels and has received federal funding for her research program and training grants, along with other honors and awards.
Davis earned degrees from Michigan State University; Hunter College, the City University of New York; and the University of Arizona, where she did doctoral studies with a double major in clinical nursing research and physiology.
“As a scientist, Dr. Davis has done first-rate research using her knowledge of physiology to examine important issues around fatigue and sleep,” says Bleich. “Her research results have been disseminated through prestigious journals to advance knowledge development about sleep and sleep quality. Too often, the public has limited knowledge of the enormous contributions nurse scientists make to health care. Dr. Davis helps break that knowledge barrier and exemplifies why nurses need to be part of interprofessional scientific teams,” says Bleich.
A reception and induction of Davis into the Paul J. McKee Jr. endowed chair will be planned for early spring.

Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College is located on the campus of Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis and is affiliated with Barnes-Jewish Hospital, with a site at Missouri Baptist Medical Center.
