Report: FlexJobs Identifies the Top 10 States Where People Want to Work From Home
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) April 29, 2015 -- After analyzing job seeker data during the first quarter of 2015, FlexJobs, a job service specializing in telecommuting and flexible job opportunities, has identified the top ten states where residents are actively pursuing jobs that allow them to work remotely. Based on this data, the top ten states are:
1. Texas
2. California
3. Florida
4. New York
5. Virginia
6. Pennsylvania
7. Georgia
8. North Carolina
9. Colorado
10. Maryland
“Work-life balance, family reasons and personal health are cited regularly as the main reasons people seek remote work, and the end result is usually happier employees that are also more productive for their companies,” said Sara Sutton Fell, Founder and CEO of FlexJobs. “And the good news for people who want to work from home is that technology, along with the shifting attitude of employers, has created many great opportunities for job seekers.”
Earlier this year FlexJobs also identified the top ten states where companies recruit the most state-based telecommuters. Seven out of the ten states matched up with this list of locations where job seekers want to work from home. North Carolina, Colorado and Maryland are the three states with disproportionate numbers of job seekers interested in telecommuting, compared to available telecommuting jobs.
New York and Maryland are also among the top five states where teleworkers save the most money ($11,974 and $11,725, respectively). South Dakota, where workers save the least, still had an average of $7,100 in savings per remote worker. The Telework Savings Calculator can be used to help determine savings on a personalized level.
The typical telecommuter, according to data from the U.S. Census, is a 49 year-old, college educated, salaried non-union employee in a management or professional role who earns $58,000 a year, and works for a company with more than 100 employees. However, people from various demographics are interested in telecommuting positions, such as working parents, millennials, semi-retirees, military spouses, people with disabilities, and caregivers.
Among those seeking flexible work options, a 100% telecommuting job is the most desired type of working arrangement. Companies that hire full time remote positions are both large and small, and span industries. Dell, IBM, Xerox, Aetna, Kaplan, American Express, Amazon, Apple and Humana are just a few examples of companies that hire telecommuters. Opportunities range from entry level to C-level and include both part-time and full-time schedules.
