Rescue Dog Goes to Academy to Prepare Him For Adoption
Rockville, MD (PRWEB) October 05, 2015 -- It was another beautiful Saturday afternoon and Cody was returning to the kennel crestfallen after the dog adoption event. He didn’t understand why the people that stopped by to visit the dog adoption event were not interested in adopting him. Didn’t they see his excitement when he lunged at them and tried jumping on them? Didn’t they see how playful and fun he was when he nipped at them? Didn’t they see how excited he was about potentially finding a new home? He was practically jumping out of his skin!
Up to this point, most of Cody’s life had been spent in a crate in a basement until his former owners decided they didn’t want him anymore and surrendered him to a local shelter. Partnership for Animal Welfare gave Cody a new lease on life when they took him into their foster program and committed to finding Cody a new home and the life he deserved. Problem was, no one had taught Cody how to be a companion dog.
Sadly, dogs in foster care can often be misunderstood and unappealing to potential dog adopters simply because the dogs have never had an opportunity to learn how to navigate our human world with some training on manners. Luckily for Cody, Partnership for Animal Welfare and SNIFFERS Doggie Retreat have teamed up to give Cody some guidance with some basic dog training. In the coming weeks Cody will learn simple behaviors such as walking on a leash, sit, stay, how to greet people and other dogs, and how to play respectfully. SNIFFERS Doggie Retreat trainers Laura Mathieson and Hillary Stains are also certified in Conditioned Relaxation/Perception Modification training techniques from Syn Alia Training Systems which teach animals to cope with stressors and manage their emotions. What does this mean for Cody? He will learn to become a well-rounded, mannered companion that anyone who is looking for a dog would LOVE to adopt!
