Resiliency Council Names Former General Motors Supply Chain Executive Bill Hurles First Executive Director
(PRWEB) January 11, 2016 -- The Global Supply Chain Resiliency Council named William L. (Bill) Hurles its first Executive Director. Most recently Mr. Hurles served as Executive Director of Supply Chain at General Motors where he led the global operations of 159 plants, as well as GM’s Global Supply Chain Leadership Team. He joined GM in 1977 and held positions of increasing responsibility ultimately spanning all manufacturing plant and supply chain headquarters functions including operations, purchasing, production control, logistics and global supply chain management.
The Global Supply Chain Resiliency Council is an incorporated not-for-profit professional community and network for supply chain risk management (SCRM) practitioners, leaders, and stakeholders formed in 2015 by Resilinc CEO and founder, Bindiya Vakil. The Resiliency Council hosts an online presence – where best practices and resources are shared – and an annual event. Recently, the Resiliency Council achieved an important milestone having grown its participant level to over 1,000 members.
“Bill is a founding member of the Resiliency Council and we are thrilled that he has decided to take on this expanded leadership role,” said Ms. Vakil. “Bill is a well-known, highly respected, and passionate leader in the supply chain management community and successfully guided GM through many supply chain crises with effective risk management and resiliency strategies. As a result, he is the ideal person to help bring the SCRM community together to advance the professional discipline and elevate its profile as a matter of C-level strategic concern.”
“SCRM is an emerging professional discipline and technology solution category that has delivered significant business value to innovators and early adopters of SCRM concepts and business practices,” said Mr. Hurles. “However, it has not yet ‘crossed the chasm’ to mainstream enterprise adoption. Part of my role is to leverage the Resiliency Council as a platform to help us all cross that bridge.”
Mr. Hurles will be formally introduced as the Resiliency Council Executive Director at the upcoming Second Annual Global Supply Chain Resiliency Council and Awards. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at the Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel in Palo Alto, California. SCRM professionals can register for the event here and learn more about the awards program, including how to nominate a company or individual, here. To become a general member of the Resiliency Council and become eligible to nominate companies and individuals for an award, one only needs to join the LinkedIn discussion group by the same name.
