Resource Furniture Provides Funding to Pony Power Therapies
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- Resource Furniture, named “The biggest retailer in the multifunctional space in the U.S.” by The Wall Street Journal, is proud to announce funding to Pony Power Therapies, a non-profit organization that offers effective horse-assisted activities to adults and children facing social, emotional and physical challenges. The financial contribution from Resource Furniture will support the enrollment of young adults from the Covenant House New Jersey in Pony Power Therapies’ PALS (Pony-Assisted Life Skills) Program for the spring semester.
Covenant House is a national charity providing food, shelter, immediate crisis care and other important services to homeless, runaway and trafficked youth. Through the funding provided by Resource Furniture, a group from Covenant House’s Newark, New Jersey campus will participate in the PALS Program for a six-week rotation at Pony Power Therapies in Mahwah, New Jersey. During this program, a group of young men and women ages 18-21 will work with horses to focus on key life skills, including safety, communication, setting boundaries, critical thinking, social skills and responsibility.
“We are so grateful for this generous support from Resource Furniture and their commitment to our program,” said Lauren Cotton, Director of Development, Pony Power Therapies. “With these critical funds, we can continue to bring the proven benefits of horse-assisted activities to young adults who otherwise would not have access to them, helping them to build life skills in an enjoyable way and also strengthen their sense of identity and self-worth.”
During each PALS session, participants take part in activities such as catching and haltering a horse, working as a team to lead a horse through obstacles, grooming, and observing horse behavior. The goal is for individuals to strengthen life skills while developing a greater sense of self-respect, confidence and esteem through their interactions with horses and one another.
For Resource Furniture, this latest venture comes as part of a long list of recent projects in non-profit and academic arenas. Resource Furniture continues to provide support to the Georgia Tech School of Architecture, Citizens House & Planning Council, U.S. Green Building Council North Florida Chapter, Housing Works, U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon and Public-Private Alliance Foundation.
