Respecting the Religious Beliefs of Others Brings Unity on International Friendship Day
(PRWEB) August 11, 2016 -- The Church of Scientology of Sacramento hosted an event locally, bringing together different faith groups to promote peace, tolerance and unity in recognition of International Friendship Day.
Opening the event was the local president of the Church of Scientology Mike Klagenburg who presented information about the booklet “The Way to Happiness.” Written by L. Ron Hubbard as a non-religious moral guide, the booklet features 21 common sense precepts to happier living which are universal in scope. According to the church’s president, “The Way to Happiness” was the impetus for the event’s theme.
Taking the precept and its chapter from the booklet entitled “Respect the Religious Beliefs of Others,” the church provided a format to do just that by inviting religious leaders from many different faith groups. Among those were three keynote speakers from diverse religious backgrounds including the Mormon Church, Christian Fellowship Church and the Muslim Faith. Each of the religious leaders provided inspiration and words of wisdom from their various faiths.
In her address, Reverend Alice Baber Banks of the Christian Fellowship Ministry emphasized respect and belief, defining them in terms that encourage trust. She shared verses of the Bible with the overall message of love and respect for one another.
Imam Haazim Rashed of the local Muslim Mosque spoke of how Muslims practice their faith with observance of certain practices and daily prayer. In closing, he quoted the Dali Lama, “We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.”
The president of the Interfaith Council of Greater Sacramento and of the Mormon faith Jon Fish shared life lessons and spoke on how friendship plays a key role in their faith. He broadened attendees’ understanding of the Mormon religion through inspirational quotes of their religion’s founder.
Closing the event were two Scientology ministers who have served as emissaries to the interfaith community. Each shared inspirational insight expressing the philosophy with readings that emphasize understanding, mercy, tolerance and charity among other things and closed with the Scientology prayer for total freedom.
