Retired Brig. Gen. Robert Thomas Joins Operation Homefront as COO

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (PRWEB) August 26, 2015 -- Operation Homefront, the national military family support nonprofit, announced today that recently retired Brig. Gen. Robert “Bob” Thomas, 53, has joined the organization as its chief operating officer. Thomas will lead the organization’s operations team to deliver programs specifically designed to meet the short-term and critical assistance, long-term stability and recurring support needs of families of service members, veterans, and wounded warriors.

“Bob brings tremendous leadership and management experiences to our senior team and shares Operation Homefront’s passion to make a real difference for those who do so much for all of us – our military families,” said President & CEO John I. Pray, Jr. “He’s absolutely the right person to head up our programmatic efforts to change the lives of our service members and their families.”

Thomas joins Operation Homefront following a nearly 31-year career of distinguished service in the Air Force. In his final command assignment, he led the Jeanne M. Holm Center for Office Accessions and Citizen Development, where he was responsible for directing the education and training programs that produce more than 81 percent of the officer cadre of the Air Force.

“I’m excited to join Operation Homefront at such a critical time for our military families,” Thomas said. “More than 13 years of war have had a profound impact on those who defend and protect our way of life and the families that serve alongside them. Family support is critical for our men and women in uniform, which is why I’m humbled to serve those families with programs and services to keep them strong, stable, and secure.”

In addition to being an experienced combat pilot, Thomas held staff assignments at Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Joint Special Operations Command, the United Nations and the Air Staff. He has flown combat and combat support missions or deployed with ground-based special operations units in Panama and Somalia, as well as Operations Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Thomas holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy and Master’s degrees from the University of Southern California and the National Defense University.
