Riders, Runners, Dancing Horses and Cowboys Keep Duncan, OK on the Move This Weekend
Duncan, OK (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 -- Cyclists, runners, equestrian drill teams and The National Day of the Cowboy at the award winning Chisholm Trail Heritage Center will offer visitors to Duncan lots to do this weekend.
Rolling thru the hills of Southwest Oklahoma, the Dehydrator bicycle ride offers challenges and personal rewards for all ages and all levels of athletic ability. The event, with distances of 10 to 80 miles, will challenge even the most experienced rider. All events start at the Simmons Center. Participants will be staged at the north parking lot. The recreational riders will start on their respective courses at 7:05 a.m. Entry fee includes a complimentary t-shirt and water bottle to the first 400 entries, a free meal after the ride and complimentary access to the Simmons Center facilities after the ride. Packets can be picked up at the Simmons Center on Friday July 26th from 6 - 9 p.m. or starting at 5:30 a.m. the day of the event. Extra meals for non riders may be purchased for a small fee, and towels are available for rent at the Simmons Center. No alcoholic beverages are permitted on the premises. Massages will also be available at the Simmons Center after the race courtesy of Moore Massage Therapy. For a $5 donation you will receive a basic massage. For donations of $10 or more you will receive a more complete massage. Rest Stops will be provided approximately every ten miles on the tour routes. There will be plenty of fluids, fruit & cookies. Helmets will be required for all entrants. Sag wagons will be available with water and road assistance for riders who have mechanical trouble or become too fatigued to finish. Cost is $25 per person, $40 per tandem team, and is non-refundable.
Too fast? Then consider entering the 5K Run from the Dark on July 26th at 9 pm in the West parking lot of Duncan Regional Hospital. Registration is $30 and sign up can be done that evening or online.
Neither fast enough? Then head to the Stephens County Fair and Expo Center and watch the amazing drill teams put their horses through complicated and dangerous team routines. Small admission fee with guaranteed thrills for the whole family.
Need to slow way down? Meander over to the The National Day of the Cowboy celebration at The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center from 10 am -5 pm on July 27th. Learn about the life and times of cowboys on the Chisholm Trail. Non stop entertainment with roving cowboy singers and poets, games, and activities. All activities are free for the whole family to enjoy.
