Rikvin Publishes Trademark Registration and Intellectual Property Protection Guide
Singapore (PRWEB) February 11, 2015 -- In a bid to encourage more Singapore-incorporated SMEs to take advantage of the city-state’s robust Intellectual Property protection options, Rikvin has recently published a comprehensive Trademark Registration Guide.
The guide explores the various types of IP protection schemes available, highlights the process of trademark registration, as well as underscores the importance of Intellectual Property protection in the city-state.
“Registering a trademark is an important step in a company’s lifecycle, one that should not be overlooked. First and foremost, a trademark is a brand identifier. Registration of your trademark provides legal rights to your intellectual property,” remarked Mr. Satish Bakhda, COO of Singapore company incorporation specialist Rikvin.
“More importantly, however, a registered trademark provides several benefits, such as domestic and international legal IP protection, as well as significant tax rebates under the Singapore Productivity and Innovation Credit Scheme,” he explained.
Introduced in 2010, the Productivity and Innovation Credit (PIC) Scheme grants a tax rebate of up to 400%, or a 60% cash payout, to offset the costs incurred in trademark registration and IP acquisition, among other qualifying investments.
According to the Intellectual property Office of Singapore, there were 263,617 (by application) and 298,099 (by class) Trademark registrations in force as of 2010. However, to date, a majority of SMEs still fail to gain IP protection.
“As Singapore shifts to a knowledge-based economy, the development and management of IP assets have become a major priority to many organizations and businesses. It is therefore imperative that enterprises must protect their most valuable assets,” Mr Bakhda emphasized.
“Through our guide, we hope to shed light on the matter, and to encourage more companies to seek trademark registration and IP protection in general,” he concluded.
