Ringling College Graduate Jordie Bellaire Wins Eisner Award for Best Coloring
Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) August 29, 2014 -- Ringling College of Art and Design today announced that illustration graduate Jordie Bellaire of Orlando has received the 2014 Eisner Award for best coloring. The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards are considered the “Oscars” of the comics world, and Jordie’s coloring work on comic book titles, including "The Manhattan Projects," "Nowhere Men," "Pretty Deadly Zero," "The Massive," "Tom Strong," "X-Files Season 10," "Captain Marvel," "Journey Into Mystery," "Numbercruncher," "Quantum," and "Woody" is responsible for winning her and publishers Image, Dark Horse, DC, IDW, Marvel, Titan, and Valiant this industry recognition.
The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards are named for the pioneering comics creator and graphic novelist Will Eisner. Nominees in each category are chosen by a five-member, blue-ribbon panel of judges in the spring of each year, then voted on by comic book professionals, with awards presented at the annual Comic-Con International convention held in San Diego, California.
“I’ve been taking the time to process this and I’m still wondering how I am at all deserving of this award,” Jordie said. “This is the second colorist award I’ve won – The first came from Publix Super Markets where I colored a happy counting dinosaur and won a Jurassic Park birthday cake. It was a great day for a five-year-old and my future was set. The Eisner means a great deal more than a Jurassic Park birthday cake, but the feelings upon winning were nearly identical – absolute surprise and maybe a little nervous someone will take it away saying 'Oh, wait, we’ve made a terrible mistake!' I have to thank my friends and my parents even though I rarely saw them the past three years because my school and work commitments forced me to cancel nearly every hangout plan made, but they were all still supportive and caring. Plus, my parents let me go to art school so that’s pretty great. Thank you, my wonderful, beautiful parental creature folks!”
