RMK Merrill Stevens Celebrates 130 Year Anniversary
Miami, FL (PRWEB) February 13, 2015 -- RMK Merrill Stevens proudly celebrates a pinnacle anniversary this year in 2015. The renowned company based in Miami Florida, is the oldest shipyard in the state and boasts a rich history of inspired quality repairs and refits. The company will celebrate the 130th year milestone of Merrill Stevens at a private, by-invitation-only dinner in March and is issuing a formal announcement to the media.
Merrill Stevens has been part of Miami’s foundation for decades, and is one of the city’s most respected entities. It started its life as Merrill Stevens Dry dock Company in Jacksonville Florida in 1885, and its current location on the Miami River was opened in 1923. In November 2013, it was acquired by Rahmi M. Koc, owner of RMK Marine in Turkey, giving the company the name it has today, and positioning the brand to go into the new millennium.
The company has expertise in all aspects of repairs and refits, from carpentry and welding to painting and refinishing. Aside from offering this wide range of sought-after services (which are already attributes), the strong and inarguably, dedicated workforce is a huge plus that continues to shine. It’s no wonder, as the historic company has been a second home to many team members for over three decades. “With tenures that run into several decades for some members of our RMK family, the knowledgebase these [experts] have acquired is substantial and a major contribution”, said CEO John Spencer.
When asked what sets RMK Merrill Stevens apart, Spencer noted the company’s rich history, knowledge and very personalized approach are all critical factors for success. “We keep it personal with our customers. We get to know them individually, and we give them the personal service that they need and expect.” While most of the company’s clients come from the US, South America and Mexico, a repeat customer base has helped spread the word about the company through the years.
Now, 130 years since its inception, the company is as big on educating and empowering its team as it is stringent in its adherence to relevant environmental laws. Understanding the changes in the world and being aware of Florida’s natural habitat, they have a recycling program in place. They also sought the services of a certified environmental engineer, to provide recommendations on ways that [they] could improve their facility.
Today, with such a powerful anniversary, the company is now in a position, to once again evolve and “give back”. Along with its loyal workforce, and led by a dynamic senior team, the company is poised to reinvest in the community it’s such a big part of. One of the exciting partnerships to be rolled out later this year includes programs with local South Florida universities. The programs will focus on a multifaceted employee apprenticeship program. This is just one of a handful of special partnerships they will launch to create community impact.
A staple on the Miami River, RMK Merrill Stevens is moving forward to a thriving future of refitting yachts of all sizes while serving Miami and surrounding communities. With great enthusiasm about the future, and a home base in a city as diverse as Miami, there is surely more to see. Here’s to another 130 years! Stay tuned….
