Roadtrip Nation Announces February Premiere of New Documentary ‘Degree of Impact’
COSTA MESA, Calif. (PRWEB) February 16, 2018 -- As a recent recipient of American Public Television’s Programming Excellence Award for 2017, career exploration company Roadtrip Nation is excited to officially kick off its sixteenth year on public television by announcing the premiere of its newest one-hour documentary special, “Degree of Impact.” Presented by KQED, “Degree of Impact” will air on public television stations nationally starting on Feb. 4, and will be available to watch online on Feb. 15 at degreeofimpact.com.
Made possible with support from Walden University, “Degree of Impact” explores the inspiring ways in which doctoral graduates all over the U.S. are using their doctorates to make a difference in their communities. The film follows Kylie, Jason, and Crystal—three students pursuing doctoral degrees in nursing, English literature, and public policy and administration, respectively—as they travel 3,000 miles across the country in Roadtrip Nation’s green RV, in search of inspiration from those who’ve made it through the rigorous yet rewarding process of earning a doctorate.
Though it’s often misconstrued as an accomplishment reserved for elites or lifetime academics, “Degree of Impact” uses candid conversations with doctoral students, candidates, and graduates to illustrate that a doctoral degree can open any number of doors—and it’s accessible to anyone willing to work hard for a dream.
“Roadtrip Nation has been working in the education space for over 10 years, so we recognize that there are misconceptions about what it takes to earn a doctorate, and what kinds of careers are available after you complete your degree,” said Mike Marriner, co-founder of Roadtrip Nation. “That’s why we were pleased to work with Walden University on this initiative, which shines a light on the incredible impact that doctoral graduates are making in just about every field imaginable.”
Whether they work in classrooms or concert halls, the doctoral graduates featured in the film are everyday people who are using their degrees to do extraordinary things. Interviews include prosecutor-turned-activist Adam Foss, who uses his J.D. to advocate for compassion in the criminal justice system; Colorado State Senator Irene Aguilar, whose M.D. laid the foundation for her to fight for universal healthcare; and veterinarian Steven Scott, who puts the expertise gained from his DVM program towards rehabilitating retired circus elephants.
As the underwriter of “Degree of Impact,” Walden University was excited to support a documentary that shines a light on a variety of different doctoral degrees outside of the traditional Ph.D., while also showing real-world examples of how these degrees can translate into fulfilling careers.
