Robert Mann Packaging Gets an “A” in Food Safety
Salinas, CA (PRWEB) October 06, 2013 -- Robert Mann Packaging (RMP) has received an “A” grade from BRC Global Standards. RMP’s manufacturing plant in Salinas, California has achieved an “A” grade in the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials. RMP manufactures corrugated fiberboard containers for the produce, strawberry, meat and seafood packing and fresh cut floral industries out of their 333,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Salinas CA.
In April of 2012, RMP became the first corrugated manufacturer in the U.S. to achieve the BRC Global Standard certification for Packaging and Packaging Materials. Since that point RMP has embarked on an aggressive program of continuous improvement, and with each audit has improved its grade within the BRC certification. RMP has now achieved a certification under the BRC Global Standards with an “A” grade, the highest available, demonstrating once again its commitment to food safety standards. Achieving this certification at the highest grade takes rigorous effort throughout the organization, and it would not have been possible without the commitment by President Steve Carroll and the diligent efforts of Vice President of Operations Carlos Velez-Conty, as well as the dedication to meet these standards by everybody in the company.
RMP President Steven Carroll said “To get an ‘A’ grade was about a year and a half process for us.” Carroll continued, “After our initial audit, we began a process of continuous improvement and the result is that now we have received the highest possible grade from BRC. Our customers can now check off on their own food safety programs and have the confidence that their packaging partner, Robert Mann Packaging, has met the highest standards in the industry.”
RMP’s manufacturing capabilities in their 333,000 square foot Salinas facility include a 66 x 125-inch 5-color die-cutter, a 37 inch 4-color Flexo-Folder-Gluer, two 50-inch 3-color Flexos, a 66 x 190-inch 2-color press, a laminator and a wax cascader, as well as 4 acres of outdoor storage to meet their customers’ needs.
“Robert Mann Packaging as a whole has become a better company because of our BRC certification and because of our pursuit of the high level of standards, practices and procedures that are required in the BRC certification. It helps you drive standard ops and best manufacturing practices in the plant, and that’s what we’ve done. Out of it we’ve become a much better organization, and it helps us define areas that we need to focus on and improve on, so it’s done an amazing amount for our company culturally, to be a better company, and to meet our customers’ needs.” said Carroll.
The BRC Global Standards are a leading global safety and quality certification program, used throughout the world by over 17,000 certificated suppliers in 90 countries through a network of over 80 accredited and BRC recognised Certification Bodies. The BRC Global Standards meets or exceeds the specification of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). The BRC Global Standards are widely used by suppliers and global retailers. They facilitate standardization of quality, safety, operational criteria and manufacturers’ fulfillment of legal obligations. They also help provide protection to the consumer.
The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) is a global business-driven initiative for the continuous improvement of food safety management systems to ensure confidence in the delivery of safe food to consumers worldwide. GFSI provides a platform for collaboration between some of the world's leading food safety experts from retailer, manufacturer and food service companies, service providers associated with the food supply chain, international organizations, academia and government.
This certification covers produce packaging, both waxed and un-waxed, seafood packaging, as well as non-food packaging, and allows the customers of RMP to export their products in RMP product packaging to markets where stringent food-safety standards are in place. This certification also allows RMP to explore new markets and expand its customer base. RMP’s new grade is reflected in its entry in the BRC Directory.
