Robert Rodio Named Vice President Business Development of CrossFiber
San Diego, California (PRWEB) January 13, 2015 -- CrossFiber Inc., the leading developer of next-generation photonic switches, has appointed Robert Rodio as its Vice President of Business Development. Mr. Rodio’s extensive business and technical experience will play a crucial role in the next phase of the company’s commercial expansion.
“As we make the exciting and challenging transition here at the company to focus on a new and growing market focused on advanced data centers and cloud computing infrastructure, we are very fortunate to have attracted an industry veteran of Bob’s caliber and experience,” said Mike Decelle, president and CEO of CrossFiber. “Bob shares our vision for enabling the next generation of data center networking with the deployment of CrossFiber’s LiteSwitch™ photonic switching platform.”
Mr. Rodio has over 30 years of experience in the communications industry and was most recently Chief Technologist for Ciena’s Network Transformation Solutions organization for North America. Bob joined Ciena when it was a small, startup company where he was central to many significant account wins with Tier 1 service providers. Bob started his career at Bell Laboratories as a hardware and systems designer, then utilized that expertise to lead complex systems engineering and technical sales teams at AT&T.
“With the market adoption of Software-Defined Networking (SDN), the time is right to leverage a combination of photonic switching along with traditional Ethernet switching to deliver an optimized data center infrastructure with massive scale,” said Rodio. “Traditional, monolithic routing protocols don’t play well when the optical layer is dynamic. The deployment of SDN will enable fully integrated control of multiple, hybrid technology layers and simultaneously optimize both optical and packet domains to deliver the lowest total-cost-of-ownership for data center networks.”
CrossFiber photonic switches provide flexibility in the optical transport layer that otherwise would be configured manually with higher costs and longer provisioning intervals. A key benefit of photonic switching is that it is inherently bit rate and protocol-independent and is ideal for optimizing fiber-level bandwidth in data center and other advanced networking applications. The CrossFiber architecture realizes lowest cost-per-bit switching and supports “future-proofed”, fiber data rates in excess of 400 Gb/s.
