Robert Whitfield’s New Book “The Lights and the Music” is an Engrossing Story of Love and Perseverance
(PRWEB) December 01, 2016 -- Robert Whitfield, a former corporate lawyer, investment banker, and management consultant, has completed his new book “The Lights and the Music”: a gripping and potent work of romantic fiction.
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, “The Lights and the Music” is Robert Whitfield’s second novel. Its story follows characters Alexandra O’Shea and Sims Daniell as they abandon highly successful business careers to live together at Hilltop, the Chester County, Pennsylvania farm of Daniell’s deceased first wife, Hadley Davenport. Each of them has finally understood the importance of the relationship that they had sacrificed to pursue their own personal ambitions in the 1960s after an idyllic college romance.
As the novel opens, Alix, who had abandoned Daniell after graduation to start her own highly successful New York public relations firm, and Daniell, now the President of the Philadelphia based conglomerate Rexton International, arrive in London. Daniell and Alix seek to raise $725 million to finance the purchase of six super LNG tankers acquired by the shipping subsidiary of Rexton. They hope to find the money in the Middle East with the help of an old friend of Alix’s, now the Ambassador of a major Arab Oil State, and the Earl of Albemarle, Chairman of London’s leading merchant bank of which Daniell had once been a partner.
As the novel unfolds, Alix helps Daniell thwart the schemes of his rivals to remove him from the presidency of Rexton and obtain the approval of the Middle East financing arranged by Daniel at a climactic meeting of the Board of Directors in Newport, only to learn a few days later that the Supreme Court has refused to review Daniell’s mistaken conviction in a recent trial and that he must serve a ten-year prison sentence. After losing Daniell for the second time in her life, Alix drives to Hilltop in despair.
Readers who wish to experience this gripping work can purchase“The Lights and the Music” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
