Robots and Pencils Launches CAKEWALK, a Fitness App that Shames You into Exercising
(PRWEB) January 26, 2016 -- Knowing that some people respond better to sarcasm than positive reinforcement, mobile app development firm Robots and Pencils has created a fitness app that uses more sass than sugar to get users moving. CAKEWALK, a free iPhone and Apple Watch app, leverages witty push notifications, fitness challenges, friendly competition and public shaming to encourage daily activity.
“We really wanted to bring a bit of humor and personality to the fitness app market while getting more people active in the process.” said Ben Myers, creator and product manager of CAKEWALK. “Anyone who needs added incentive to stay fit can download their own personal drill instructor to their phone -- a sarcastic cake with legs character who is hard to please and eager to shame.”
Using the iPhone’s motion activity, CAKEWALK tracks how many steps a user takes throughout the day. Every morning, the app compares the user’s step count from the day before to the user’s average weekly activity before serving up an assortment of motivational one liners and challenges. The lazier a user is, the more shame is dished out.
To encourage friendly competition, CAKEWALK users can choose to log in with their Twitter account and compete with their followers for the top spot on a leaderboard.
Users who find extra motivation in public shaming can opt to have CAKEWALK shame them on Twitter when they’re being especially lazy. To avoid such shaming altogether, these users will have to successfully complete the daily challenges or pay one dollar each time they need to skip a challenge.
CAKEWALK is available now for free in the App Store, and is compatible with iPhone 5s or later and Apple Watch.
