Rochester, NY Plastic Surgeon Receives National Recognition for His Low Complication Rates in Breast Augmentation
Rochester, New York (PRWEB) July 12, 2016 -- Dr. William Koenig’s co-authored abstract titled, “The Keller Funnel in Primary Breast Augmentation +/- Mastopexy Decreases Complications,” was recently approved and accepted by the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons for a presentation at the 33rd Annual Meeting held on October 14-16 in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Koenig collaborated with two plastic surgeons in the Rochester area to write the piece that looks at the low complication rates in breast augmentation and/or breast augmentation with lift when using the Keller Funnel for implant insertion.
Well-known nationally for his expertise in the breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Koenig of the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery started using the Keller Funnel in 2010 and immediately found that it was the ideal way to perform a safer breast augmentation procedure. He has achieved a record number of complication-free breast implant surgeries with the use of the device, totaling over 500.
The Keller Funnel, a conical-shaped device used to place a silicone breast implant without the transmission of harmful bacteria, was developed in 2009. This tool also allows for a smaller incision, reduces scarring, decreases bruising, and minimizes post-surgical swelling. Since infection is the primary causes of capsular contracture, a possible complication that occurs in over 15% of breast augmentation procedures, the use of the Keller Funnel greatly reduces the risk of contamination.
In a report titled, “Primary Breast Augmentation: A Single Surgeon’s Experience with Nearly 1000 Cases,” Dr. Koenig documented his low complication rates. Presented at the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgery in 2012 in Boston, he highlighted his capsular contracture rates at .8% versus the national average of 15%. His low complication rates are in part due to the use of the Keller Funnel, among other factors such as a controlled setting with a single surgeon and consistent, meticulous, well-planned patient care.
Dr. Koenig has over 24 years of experience in plastic surgery specializing exclusively in breast and body procedures. Joining the Quatela Center for Plastic Surgery in 2003, he has performed over 1,600 breast augmentation procedures over the last 13 years. He is the leading provider of breast augmentation in Western and Central New York.
